The Medical Referent defines and contributes to INTERSOS’s programmes’ policy, plays a strategic role by defining the modalities of implementation of INTERSOS medical policy so that both coherence and quality can be safeguarded.

Location: Rome HQ, Italy with frequent field missions
Reporting to: Director of Programmes
Starting date: 1/1/2016
Duration of contract: 3 years (renewable)
2. Tasks and responsibilities
The Medical Referent
§ is the reference for medical (& medical ethical) issues.
§ participates in the strategic decision making platforms regarding programmes’ strategies and implementation.
§ is responsible for designing and adapting the medical policies, medical strategies, medical guidelines, medical standards and tools within INTERSOS. In addition, while implementation of policies is essentially a matter of project management, feedback from the field must be obtained to adjust policies and to facilitate their use.
§ is the final responsible for the quality of medical supplies for the INTERSOS projects.
§ ensures that medical data are gathered, checked, analysed and interpreted.
§ ensures adequate evaluations, capitalisation and research in articulation with the Programme Unit and centralizes deployment of medical consultants.
§ ensures an adequate offer of medical trainings
§ ensures an appropriate pool and career management of medical human resources in coordination with the Human Resources department
§ is available as spokes-person for the Communication Department on medical issues
§ represents INTERSOS in the national and international medical platforms.
3. Required profile/experience
§ Education: Essential, degree in medicine or other paramedical studies. Specialization in tropical medicine or a degree in Public Health would be an asset.
§ Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience in humanitarian projects; this experience should include a solid field experience, including experience in coordination positions.
§ Languages: English & French; Italian is a strong plus.
§ Knowledge: ITC literacy
§ Competences: Strategic vision, leadership, people management, teamwork and flexibility.
