2. Job description
A. General context of the project
General context of the project
Provision of Nutrition Services Integrated with Routine vaccination, focused on Children under 5 and pregnant and lactating women (PLW) living in Jowhar districts of Middle Shabelle and Diinsoor district of Bay, Somalia.
B. General purpose of the position, responsibilities and tasks
General purpose of the position
INTERSOS is planning to support the drought affected population and communities in Jowhar of Middle Shabelle and Diinsoor District of Bay region with the provision of Nutrition Services Integrated with Routine vaccination, focused on Children under 5 and pregnant and lactating women (PLW) through one MCH and one mobile clinic team; referral health services and health promotion activities.
Main responsibilities and tasks
· Support the mission, vision, and core values of INTERSOS
· Maintain and conduct standard nursing profession and procedures
· Offering direct patient care, encompassing all health, hygiene, and nutritional needs of patients;
· Work with your immediate supervisor closely in clinical management of cases
· Exercise ethics, keeping privacy and confidential information protected
· Maintain standard infection control at your station
· Maintain and protect all equipment under your custody for your daily activities
· Help others where nursing related activities may be needed
· Keep effective communication within INTERSOS health staff
· Provide health education to patients when necessary
· Carry out any other additional duties assigned by your supervisor as may be required.
· Following and completing assignments as given by the Project Manager;
· Working closely with INTERSOS partners in the field;
· Performing physical examinations, including collecting laboratory specimens, and distribute medicines as appropriate;
· Restocking supplies in mobile clinics at the completion of the shift;
· Monitoring inventory and notifying appropriate individuals when supplies are needed;
· Transport patients in accordance with the medical and paramedical protocol, summoning Ambulance for emergency cases;
· Collaborate with CHWs and other INTERSOS personnel to monitor outbreaks and other health indicators in remote areas;
· Assist Monitoring and Evaluation Team in assessing areas for possible expansion;
· Looking beyond physical needs of patients, to include psychosocial, emotional, spiritual, educational, etc.;
· Document patient data clearly, concisely, and comprehensively;
· Gather and check for consistency of clinical cards data with close collaboration to senior health staffs and facilitate that these are properly transmitted to the Data Manager to be included in the database;
3. Position requirements
Education
Bachelor or diploma in Nursing from a well-recognized institution, with special knowledge in pediatrics, maternal care/delivery, or emergency treatment preferred
Professional experience
At least two years of relevant experience as a nurse experience and skills
Professional requirements
- Demonstrable understanding of medical ethics and nursing practices.
Languages
- Excellent Speaking, writing and reading of English
Personal requirements
- Ability to travel within district (all the remote areas)
- Ability to work independently self-motivated and organizes its own time and work independently.
- Ready to work in difficult environmental conditions
- Sensitive to different cultures and has good interpersonal skills
- Competent to work under stress as the situation may dictate.
- Ability to work with displaced communities with diverse cultural and ethnic background
