General purpose of the position
INTERSOS has been supporting the Jowhar Regional Hospital (JRH) in 1992. INTERSOS is urgently looking for a Nurse Anaesthetist to support activities at Jowhar Hospital. The Nurse Anaesthetist is responsible for the administration of anaesthesia and related services in the operating theatre.
Main responsibilities and tasks
v Following and completing assignments as given by the Head and Charge Nurses;
v Creating and maintaining an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and calm for patients and fellow staff;
v Preparing operating theatre for surgical procedures;
v Restocking sedation supplies in operating theatre at the completion of the shift;
v Ensuring that Surgery Ward and operating theatre are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner;
v Monitoring anaesthesia inventory and notifying appropriate individuals when supplies are needed;
v Scrubbing for surgical procedures;
v Administering anaesthesia to surgical patients;
v Individualise patient care according to patient’s health, age, and procedure being performed;
v Looking beyond physical needs of patients, to include psychosocial, emotional, spiritual, educational, etc.;
v Document patient data clearly, concisely, and comprehensively;
v Maintain patient confidentiality;
v Gather and check for consistency of clinical cards data with close collaboration to doctors and facilitate that these are properly maintained and transmitted to the head department.
v Undertake other tasks not specified in this posting at the request of direct and upper management.
3. Position requirements
Clinical Responsibilities
The Nurse Anaesthetist must be able to demonstrate the following:
v Pre-anaesthesia assessment
v Pre-anaesthetic medication
v General anaesthesia and adjuvant drugs
v Regional anaesthesia techniques
v Sedation techniques
v Cardiopulmonary resuscitation management
v Invasive and non-invasive monitoring
v Airway management techniques
v Mechanical ventilation/oxygen therapy
v Fluid, electrolyte, acid-base management
v Blood, blood products, plasma expanders
v Peripheral intravenous/arterial catheter placement
v Central venous catheter placement
v Pulmonary artery catheter placement
v Acute and chronic pain therapy
v Post anaesthesia care/discharge
Skills and competences
Ø Bachelor or diploma in Nursing from a well-recognized institution;
Ø Must have minimum of two years surgical/Anaesthesia work experience;
Ø Proven previous Hospital anaesthesia experience, motivation letter from previous job experience (International NGOs); preferred
Ø Excellent communications skills, both oral and written;
Ø Computer skills (Word and Excel);
Ø Excellent self-motivation and decision making skills;
Ø Extremely flexible, and able to cope with stressful situations and frustrations.
Ø Somali national, able to work in Middle Shabelle Region.
