It maintains a flexible operating structure. The head office in Italy coordinates, supports and monitors the planned activities in the countries of intervention carried out by decentralised offices. The statutory bodies of INTERSOS, are: the Members Assembly, the Council, the Society for Auditing and Certification of Accounts.
We are recruiting to fill the National position below;

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Responsible for the collection of data on overall protection monitoring activities in the assigned area; supporting, and responding to the needs of individuals with protection concerns, ensuring that their rights are respected and rights violations are documented and addressed. Liaise directly with affected communities, informing them of their rights and assisting them to claim these. Coordinate with Outreach team and support in awareness and info dissemination activities.
Contributes to the design of protection monitoring methodologies, implementation of protection monitoring activities and analysis of emerging information with an emphasis on developing trends and protection concerns.
Main Responsibilities and Tasks
• Conduct protection monitoring activities at household and community levels, using different quantitative and qualitative tools;
• Identify key informants in the community to involve in regular protection monitoring activities through semi-structured and unstructured interviews (KII);
• Facilitate FGDs on selected topics with community members to better understand the causes and consequences of identified risks;
• Monitor and report protection concern and trends, new population displacements and movements in the areas of operations;
• Report all serious protection incidents or immediate protection concerns identified;
• Map service providers in the area of intervention; identifying and reporting gaps in the availability of services;
• Support sensitisation, information dissemination and awareness raising activities;
• Act as a referral focal point for INTERSOS case management, reporting and referring protection cases and advising on appropriate assistance;
• Facilitate access to communities, establishing nurturing relationships with key stakeholders, including local leadership;
• Conduct regular protection monitoring activities at field level, using participatory methods and incorporating age, gender and diversity markers in populations samples for planning, consultation and implementation of activities;
• Enhance and facilitate discussions on the protection concerns and resilience capacity of affected communities;
REPORTING, ADMINISTRATIVE & TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support the protection monitor team leader in reporting on all protection monitoring activities via weekly workplans, people management and reports (weekly and monthly) including analysis of the information;
• Support positive team dynamics and a healthy work environment where case workers feel comfortable and supported in sharing experiences, challenges and feelings;
• Participate in individual supervision sessions on a weekly basis with the Protection Monitor Team Leader, bringing immediate attention to any case of special/emergency needs, discussing ongoing issues and strategizing on team development;
OTHER GENERAL PROTECTION ACTIVITIES
• Contribute to regular service mapping, updates to the service directory and support the development of referral systems with different service providers and the local NGO/CSO partner;
• Flag protection and security issues and contribute to the identification of appropriate responses;
• Identify and assist in the analysis of protection trends;
• Collaborate and coordinate with INTERSOS teams from other departments (WASH, Health & Nutrition, Livelihoods, etc…) in order to ensure holistic solutions to beneficiaries’ needs;
• Ensure good relationships and coordination with the main service providers in the area of intervention with an emphasis on the identification of specific needs to ensure prompt referral, follow up and information sharing;
• Any other activities specified by the supervisory/managerial team
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education
• University degree in a related field (e.g. Social Work, Psychology, Law, etc…);
Professional Experience
• Minimum 1-year of work experience with IDPs, host communities and returnees in the protection sector with an INGO, NGOs and/or local authorities in Nigeria;
Professional Requirements
• Familiarity with protection monitoring concepts and practices;
• Strong knowledge of general protection themes (case management, PSS, etc..)
• Essential computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, internet, etc…);
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
• Excellent reporting skills;
• Leadership, planning and organisational skills;
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
• Ability and motivation to work well with local authorities, local leaders and local community;
• Willing to work extra hours and available at the weekend for emergency cases;
Languages
• Fluency in English, Kanuri and Hausa;
