INTERSOS is a non-profit humanitarian aid organization that works to bring assistance to people affected by natural disasters and conflicts. Established in 1992 with support from the Italian Federation of Trade Unions, its actions are based on the values of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equal rights and opportunities for all people and respect for diversity and coexistence, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable and the unprotected. In Somalia INTERSOS is active since 1992 responding to emergencies that involve IDPs and returnees populations as well as the host community. INTERSOS currently operates in Banadir, Bay, and Middle Shabelle and Mudug regions of Somalia.
Position overview:
INTERSOS is collaborating with MoH in South Central Zone of Somalia for cold chain, vaccines and logistics supplies to attain optimal immunization and health status of children, pregnant and lactating women and women of child bearing age. The cold chain vaccines and logistics management for supplies for immunization is for communities in Jowhar, Mahaday, Balad Aden Yabel, Adale, Runigod and Warsheyk districts of Middle Shebelle. The project seeks to deliver cold chain services with vaccines logistics and supplies management for immunization in the districts mentioned above thereby consolidating the gains that has been made by previous similar projects from the year 2009 in child survival and immunization, growth and development.
Main responsibilities:
· The district Cold Chain Operators, based in each of the 5 districts will have overall responsibility for managing the vaccine storage to ensure that it is stored in the appropriate temperature and ensure that vaccines are dispatched before the expiry and in accordance with vaccine management SOPs at the district level to the health facilities.
· In addition, the cold chain operators will also have the responsibility of managing vaccines logistics including reporting vaccine arrival, dispatch and balances in the district cold chain.
· The cold chain operators will have additional responsibilities of ensuring that there is adequate quantity of vaccine stock kept at the cold chain stores at the district level.
· The cold chain operators will also conduct regular physical inventories of stock, check the balances remaining in the store and update the stock record at the district level.
· Maintain close working relationships with UNICEF Supply division to ensure that equipment supplied to the Project sites by UNICEF meets programmatic needs.
· Familiarity to EPI Consept and actualisation.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCES:
· Somali national, able to work in the Middle Shabelle Region
· Experience in staging community awareness/health promotion activities
· Excellent Somali language skills are a requirement, intermediate level of English a plus
· Computer literate and Excellent writing and drafting report skills
· Over 2 years of experience in cold chain programmes in Somalia context
· Demonstrated experience in working with local Ministries of Health in low-resource environments on the development, planning, implementation or monitoring and evaluation of Cold Chain Supply programmes.
· Education background, should have a degree in public health,
