INTERSOS is an independent humanitarian organization that assists the victims of natural disasters, armed conflicts and exclusion. Its activities are based on the principles of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equality of rights and opportunities, respect for diversity and coexistence, paying special attention to the most vulnerable people.

INTERSOS has been present in the Middle East since decades, with its main offices in Amman, Beirut and Erbil. Programs revolve around protection – including child protection and sexual and gender based violence, provision of basic needs, cash assistance, education and response to immediate needs. INTERSOS is partnering with several donors, among which UNICEF, ECHO, UNHCR and OCHA in assisting the most vulnerable among the Middle Eastern population.

The platform was established in Amman and acts as a mixed migration information hub for the Middle East and focuses on people within mixed migration flows moving to, within and from the region, as well as linked secondary regions such as Europe or Central Asia and South West Asia (CASWA).

1.Terms of reference

Job title: Analyst

Location: Amman, with extensive travel within the Middle East and possibly to Europe

Reporting to: Regional Director & Protection Focal Point Middle East

Coordinate with: Mixed Migration Platform (MMP) Coordinator and other MMP Analysts

Starting date: ASAP

Duration of contract: 10 months, fulltime

2.Tasks and responsibilities

The main objective of this position is to lead technical analysis for the newly established Mixed Migration Platform (MMP).

This joint initiative will promote research, data-sharing, and discussion regarding mixed migration, in an effort to illuminate mixed migration flows that are in some ways ‘hidden’ from media, public, political, and academic focus by a prevailing focus on Syrian refugees.

The platform will provide independent research, reporting, and resources concerning mixed migration flows in their entirety, from country of origin to country of destination and will fill gaps in mixed migration analysis for lesser-studied groups and under researched topics and aspects of migration.

The Analyst will coordinate closely with other members of the Platform, analyzing data during the research and studies, sharing and presenting findings and coordinating with different stakeholders. The Analyst will be technically supervised by the coordinator of the platform and will sit in the DRC (Danish Refugee Council) Regional Office in Amman, where the Joint Analysis Unit is based.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Protection Focal Point, the Analyst will be responsible of the following:

· Works with and coordinates with the Joint Analysis Unit in the design and analysis of specific topics related to mixed migration;

· S/He is active part of a regional platform, in coordination with several stakeholders, including INGOs, research institutes and civil society organizations;

· Writes reports/briefings/guidance on mixed migration issues and disseminates them to a range of audiences;

· Uses data and information to influence policy and inform practitioners, commissioners and relevant stakeholders about mixed migration issues;

· Liaises and identifies research institutions capable of carrying out studies and papers on mixed migration issues;

· Strongly liaises with the Protection Focal Point, Regional Director and National Protection Coordinators, coordinating with them researches, policy actions and initiatives;

· Supervises large research studies and ensure quality products are finalized within the assigned timeframe;

· Acts as a manager for all the components of the project related to this organization;

· Liaises with other members of the platform in order to coordinate researches, policy papers and actions and any other interventions aimed at coordinating meaningfully the overall intervention;

· Represents INTERSOS at different fora related to the project and reporting to relevant colleagues: Regional Director, Director of Programme, etc.

Other responsibilities:

· Upholds the INTERSOS Code of Conduct and policies;

· Ensures the respect of the core humanitarian principles: neutrality, impartiality, independence and humanity and the respect of the “do no harm” principle of humanitarian action.

· Strictly follow the internal procedures, policies (PSEA, CPP etc.) and guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

3.Required profile/experience

· Master degree from an accredited university in social studies, international relations, migration studies or any related field

· Demonstrable experience of delivering qualitative and quantitative research, in particular of managing, analyzing and drawing meaning from large data sets;

· Demonstrable experience of writing reports and papers on humanitarian/human rights matters;

· Experience in policy actions on issues relevant for this action, migration, displacement, human rights etc.;

· Experience in managing financial and logistics aspects of complex projects;

· Knowledge of the humanitarian context within the Middle East;

· Excellent analytical skill

· Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people;

· Excellent team working skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment and under pressure;

· Fluent in verbal and written English;

· Fluency in Excel and/or Access;

· Arabic language an asset
