INTERSOS is a non-profit humanitarian aid organization that works to bring assistance to people affected by natural disasters and conflicts. Established in 1992 with support from the Italian Federation of Trade Unions, its actions are based on the values of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equal rights and opportunities for all people and respect for diversity and coexistence, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable and the unprotected. In Somalia INTERSOS is active since 1992 responding to emergencies that involve IDPs and returnees populations as well as the host community. INTERSOS currently operates in Banadir, Bay, and Middle Shabelle and Mudug regions of Somalia.
Position overview:
INTERSOS is looking for a committed, field health coordinator to oversee the implementation of two health activities in Baidoa District. The field Health coordinator will focus, among other things, on the supervision of health services provided through mobile clinics in Baidoa District (Maternal and Child Health, including Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC) and Expanded Programme on Immunization).
The successful candidate will be tasked with the supervision and implementation of the health component under one UNHCR funded project aimed at promoting reintegration of returnees and durable solutions for returnees, IDPs and host community. In particular the Field Health Coordinator, will be in charge of the supervision of the activities conducted by two mobile clinics in Baidoa District. Moreover, the select candidate will be tasked with the supervision of services delivered by two partner MCH in Baidoa and Diinsor (Wadajir MCH and Holwadaag MCH). The targeted areas were strongly affected by the drought and INTERSOS together with UNHCR is implementing emergency response activities looking at creating the conditions to begin recovery actions by providing basic health, wash, protection and education services. Moreover, the field health coordinator will be responsible to promote integrated approaches with the INTERSOS Wash Department in the targeted areas.
Main responsibilities:
Program
· Attend and participate and support the regional level health cluster meetings.
· Represent the Organization during coordination meetings with partners and donors in Somalia.
· Ensure timely implementation and reporting of project activities to Nairobi and to the donor.
· Support proposals writing and implementation of health assessments.
· Ensure technical support for the design of health proposals.
· Responsible for coordinating activities both in Baidoa and Diinsor related to health ensuring the promotion of an integrated approach with other departments.
· Ensure regular staff supervision, field visits and action-oriented feedback for monitoring and evaluation, adherence to accountability procedures and documentation.
· Directly responsible for liaison with the different stake holders and the authorities in the project implementation areas.
· Support to any other upcoming tasks/projects on health.
Administration - financial
· Ensure respect of INTERSOS administrative procedures
· Support administration and supervisor in budget development for new projects
Logistic
· Ensure support to procurement procedures.
· Ensure supervision, acquisition and hand over of Equipment and materials.
· Coordination with sub-national logistic officers.
Human Resources
· Training and capacity building conducted for supervised
· Staff management for the personnel under direct supervision
Position Requirements:
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Health and Nutrition or related studies and considerable demonstrated experience.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in relevant program management or technical advisory roles in complex HEALTH projects preferably in Africa; experience in Somalia will be highly preferred.
- Expertise in government, nongovernmental, and community capacity building for HEALTH.
- Good working experience in community participation and development.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement strategies that employ evidence-based approaches to meet project targets, especially under rigorous timelines.
- Experience working and collaborating with diverse sets of stakeholders, such as local NGOs, government officials, donor representatives, and international staff.
