2. General context of the project
INTERSOS is an International Humanitarian Organisation with its HQ in Rome, a Branch office in Nairobi and a Representation office in Geneva. The organisational structure is comprised of the Secretary General office, the Departments of Programmes, Finance, Logistics/ICT, Fundraising/Communication, Human Resources and the Internal Audit office. INTERSOS is operational in 17 countries with over 2500 national and international staff worldwide.

3. General purpose of the position
The present organisational structure of INTERSOS Programmes Department is made of a team of one Director of Programmes, five Regional Directors, four Deputy Regional Directors, a Senior Protection Advisor, the Medical Unit and the Emergency Unit.
The Director of Programmes is responsible for the management and supervision of all missions of INTERSOS; he/she is also responsible for the overall coherence and strategic policy of INTERSOS Programmes and the management of Programmes Department.
4. Main responsibilities and tasks
- Ensure coherence in the Programmes portfolio of INTERSOS
- Ensure coherence of Programmes ambitions with INTERSOS resource policies
- Define, elaborate and follow up the Programmes strategies assisted by the other departments
- Select, support, and coach the Regional Directors, the Heads of Missions (HoMs), and Co-ordination teams in general
- Support and follow up of specific dossiers
- Lead and steer the preparation of the annual exercise of the INTERSOS Programmes
- Prior endorsement of the SG, decide on exploratory missions, on starting, reorienting, and ending projects through the decision making platforms
- Develop and exercise a representative function vis-à-vis governments, national and international bodies and sponsors
- Work on enhancing the humanitarian debate
5. Required profile and experience
Education
Degree in Political Science, Humanitarian Response, Cooperation and Development, or any other relevant technical field
Professional experience
Working experience of at least 7 years in the humanitarian sector, of which at least 3 years as Head of Mission/Regional/Coordination position
Experience in remote management and representation roles

Languages
English & French; Italian a strong plus
Personal requirements
Strategic vision, leadership, people management, teamwork, flexibility, intercultural understanding, diplomacy, discretion. Excellent organization and planning skills, good communication skills, orientation to results. Able to redefine priorities according to new information/unexpected events.
