INTERSOS is an independent humanitarian organization that assists the victims of natural disasters, armed conflicts, exclusion and negligence. Its activities are based on the principles of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equality of rights and opportunities, respect for diversity and coexistence, paying special attention to the most vulnerable people.
The present organisational structure of INTERSOS Programmes Unit is made of a team of one Director of Programmes and four Regional Directors. The Director of Programmes is responsible for the management and supervision of all missions of INTERSOS; he/she is also responsible for the overall coherence and strategic policy of INTERSOS Programmes and the management of Programmes Unit.

Job title: Director of Programmes
Location: Rome HQ, Italy with frequent field missions
Reporting to: Secretary General (SG)
Starting date: 1/1/2016
Duration of contract: 3 years (renewable)
2. Tasks and responsibilities
§ Ensure coherence in the Programmes portfolio of INTERSOS.
§ Ensure coherence of Programmes ambitions with INTERSOS resource policies.
§ Define, elaborate and follow up the Programmes strategies assisted by the other departments.
§ In coordination with HR department, select, support, and coach the Regional Directors, the Heads of Missions (HoMs), and Co-ordination teams in general.
§ Support and follow up of specific dossiers.
§ Lead and steer the preparation of the annual exercise of the INTERSOS Programmes.
§ Help design projects, prepare them, and exploit acquired experience on-site, while defining themes specific to the development of the missions concerned.
§ Prior endorsement of the SG, decide on exploratory missions, on starting, reorienting, and ending projects through the decision making platforms.
§ Develop and exercise a representative function vis-à-vis governments, national and international bodies and sponsors
§ Work on enhancing the humanitarian debate.
3. Required profile/experience
§ Education: Relevant degree.
§ Experience: Working experience of at least seven years in managing humanitarian programmes with increasing responsibilities.
§ Languages: English & French; Italian a strong plus.
§ Knowledge: ITC literacy compulsory
§ Competences: Strategic vision, leadership, people management, teamwork and flexibility.
