2. Job description

A. General context of the project

General context of the project

Contribute to a protective environment for children from unlawful recruitment and use of children by and to successfully reintegrate children and youths associated with armed forces/groups (CAAFAG) into communities in fulfilment of their fundamental rights.

B. General purpose of the position, responsibilities and tasks

General purpose of the position

The Child Protection/ Identification, Documentation, Tracing and Reunification case worker will be responsible for identification, documentation, tracing and reunification of Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASC) and their families and offers basic emotional support to vulnerable target populations, and supporting response to survivors of GBV.

Main responsibilities and tasks

  • Maintain daily contact with community focal points and child protection (including GBV and child protection advocates), community-based health and nutrition workers, Education and WASH staff and conduct regular community visits as part of the INTERSOS protection team outreach;
  • Promote adherence to the guiding principles of Child Protection among community focal points, other community-based actors and service providers for safe and ethical referral of cases and ensuring self-determination of the UASC and other child protection cases;
  • Case management and follow up of cases related to UASC after Identification and documentation, including continuous basic emotional support. Once the cases is identified the case workers is expected to to provide case management based on a child-centred approach:

  • Create a climate of trust and care;

  • Introduction, Consent procedure

  • Rapid case assessment;

  • Comprehensive best interest assessment, case action planning and implementation;

  • Case follow up & Review;

  • Preferred durable solution in discussion with the child and caregiver;

  • Case closure;

  • Final follow up (confirm the sustainability of preferred durable solution).

  • Ensure the provision of comprehensive information on services available to the client, maintain coordination with service provider focal points, and ensure accompaniment and referral to service adhering to referral SOPs and “need to know” principle;

  • Conduct ad hoc assessment for the provision of material assistance or/and transportation cost to reach the nearest hospitals or health clinics;

  • Provide individual and group basic emotional support as agreed with the child and caregiver of the child;

  • Support the M&E officer to assess service satisfaction and post-distribution monitoring of material assistance provided;

  • Conduct regular follow-up visits to children in alternative care, and support informal foster families to support UASC children in their care. Immediately report to the CP Officer any issues with the care arrangements for children;

  • Participate in weekly case management meetings lead by the Base CP Officer and in Best Interest Determination panels, when required;

  • Support the GBV Officer with service mapping assessment and update information on service provider focal points and gaps or issues in the provision of services or adherence to GBV and CP guiding principles;

  • Regularly attend Case management meetings organized by the CPWG, if requested;

  • Prepare and conduct CP awareness together with the Base CP Officer and GBV team;

  • Ensure the referral of any GBV or other protection cases to INTERSOS GBV team or other agencies, as per the regional referral SOPs;

  • Support the Database officer and Base CP Officer in writing monthly report with the analyses of the GBV cases and respect deadline for the delivering of monthly report or any kind of urgent report;

  • Adhere to INTERSOS Child Protection, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Data Protection protocols and the regional referral SOPs.

  • Other duties as required by Base CP/GBV Officer or Activities Field Coordinator.

3. Position requirements

Education

· Minimum secondary school certificate, previous minimum one year experience as a social worker or case worker with International and national organizations; Former teacher, Nurse or Midwife preferred;

Professional experience

· Previous experience in the humanitarian field in an emergency context working for an NGO, preferably in the protection sector in Somalia;

Professional requirements

· Two or more years work experience in for NGOs

· Experience in working with vulnerable community members especially children and women.

· Good analytical and report writing skills is desirable

Languages

· Fluency in written and spoken English and Somali (Maay-Maay) is essential;
