2. Job description

A. General context of the project

General context of the project

The objective of the project is to strengthen case management through direct service provision to unaccompanied and separated children, children at risk of being recruited by armed forces or groups and referrals of services for GBV survivors. This includes providing training ad mentoring to the CP and GBV staffs of INTERSOS including CPiE, the project aims to provide immediate lifesaving assistance to vulnerable populations.

B. General purpose of the position, responsibilities and tasks

General purpose of the position

The Community engagement officer will be responsible for all gender-based violence (GBV) and Child protection Activities, prevention- related activities , including capacity building, outreach and awareness-raising activities with community members and local partners, development and dissemination of communication materials (Information, Education and Communication -IEC or Behavior Change Communication- BCC and community mobilization strategies to promote community participation and engagements. The Community engagement officer will oversee GBV and CP risk identification and mitigation activities, train and supervise community volunteers and incentive workers, local partners and GBV /CPWG members to increase women’s and children access to information about GBV and CP risks, services and importance of timely reporting.

Main responsibilities and tasks

· Act as the focal points in the target areas of operating for case workers, to provide confidential reporting of cases and the situation of women and children who are survivors or at risk of gender-based violence (GBV);

· Support the caseworkers to make the follow up of cases and to implement the referral system for health, psychosocial, security/protection and legal services to survivors of GBV;

· Work in close coordination with the case workers for the distribution of material assistance provided to the women, men, boys and girls at risk of GBV and GBV survivor;

· Interact with the community, elders, imams, formal and informal authorities etc on a daily basis to coordinate identification, make prompt reports especially for emergency cases;

· Support the GBV Field Coordinator to organize GBV mainstreaming sessions, including identify community leaders (women and men), humanitarian and others stakeholders;

· Make sure that confidentiality is always respected when dealing with GBV cases;

· Facilitate mediation, when is needed, among the community to facilitate INTERSOS work in the target communities;

· Any other task not here listed but necessary to the project and activities.

3. Position requirements

Education

· University degree in relevant area (e.g. sociology, community développement);

Professional experience

Professional requirements

· Project Management skills, including financial planning.

· Experience in psychosocial support, case management and alternative care for children is an asset

· Good reporting writing and communication skills is required

· Gender-sensitive and advocate for women, children and minority rights.

Languages

· Fluency in written and spoken English and Somali is essential;
