2. Job description
A. General context of the project
General context of the project
Provision of Nutrition Services Integrated with Routine vaccination, focused on Children under 5 and pregnant and lactating women (PLW) living in Jowhar districts of Middle Shabelle and Diinsoor district of Bay, Somalia.
B. General purpose of the position, responsibilities and tasks
General purpose of the position
INTERSOS is planning to support the drought affected population and communities in Jowhar of Middle Shabelle and Diinsoor District of Bay region with the provision of Nutrition Services Integrated with Routine vaccination, focused on Children under 5 and pregnant and lactating women (PLW) through one MCH and one mobile clinic team; referral health services and health promotion activities.
Main responsibilities and tasks
· Support the mission, vision, and core values of INTERSOS;
· Following and completing assignments as given by the mobile clinic nurse
· Working closely with INTERSOS partners in the field;
· Creating and maintaining an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and calm for clients and fellow staff;
· Offering direct patient care, passing all health, hygiene, and nutritional needs of patients
· Communicating to patients the nature of care being provided and best health and hygiene practices
· Checking anthropometric measures, MUAC, and oedema and cases to appropriate structure
· Record properly all screening results and write daily, weekly, monthly reports
· Explain purpose of admission
· Fill out and maintain the OTP/TSFP register
· Identify absentees or defaulters and inform the outreach workers
· Assist to a feeding time to observe the child the caretaker in their environment and provide advices
· Receive the patients admitted together with those accompanying them and give them information on how the centre functions
· Update all the discharges in the registry and the follow-up book
· Give the patients or the person accompanying him the treatment card ,a food ration , and an appointment for the follow-up
· To carry out any other duties /or responsibilities assigned by the supervisor
· Record on the screening book all beneficiaries screened and refer them to the appropriate structure using referral ticket
· Performing physical examinations, including collecting laboratory specimens, and distribute medicines as appropriately prescribed by the doctor to hospitalized patients;
· Gathering supplies and equipment for care of patients within wards of responsibility;
· Restocking supplies in wards at the completion of the shift;
· Ensuring that mobile clinic, including medical equipment, are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner;
· Monitoring ward inventory and notifying appropriate individuals when supplies are needed;
· Individualise patient care according to patient’s health, age, and procedure being performed;
· Looking beyond physical needs of patients, to include psychosocial, emotional, spiritual, educational, etc.;
· Document patient data clearly, concisely, and comprehensively;
· Maintain patient confidentiality;
· Gather and check for consistency of clinical cards data with close collaboration to doctors and facilitate that these are properly transmitted to the Data Manager to be included in the database;
· Undertake other tasks not specified in this posting at the request of direct and upper management.
3. Position requirements
Education
Diploma/Certificate in Nursing from a well-recognized institution, with special knowledge in pediatrics, maternal care/delivery, or emergency treatment preferred
Professional experience
- Minimum of two years’ work experience preferred
- Previous Hospital experience, motivation letter from previous job experience (International NGOs)
Professional requirements
- Demonstrable understanding of medical ethics and nursing practices.
Languages
- Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
Personal requirements
- Ability to go within district (all the remote areas)
- Ability to work independently self-motivated and organizes its own time and work independently.
- Ready to work in difficult environmental conditions
- Competent to work under stress as the situation may dictate.
- Somali national, able to work in Jowhar of Middle Shabelle and Diinsoor district, of Bay Region, Somalia.
