Nigeria: Case Workers (GBV) TEAM LEADER

General purpose of the position:
Provides appropriate and timely supervision of case management services; supporting, coaching and overseeing the needs assessments, case plan development, referral and follow- up of individuals with protection concerns, ensuring that these are implemented as per evolving protection needs and
concerns. Drafts and oversees the weekly workplan for the team, including case management, supervision, team meetings, general protection activities and reporting is done in-line with INTERSOS and international best practice standards.

Main Responsibilities & Tasks:
CASE MANAGEMENT & SUPERVISION

  • Act as a referral focal point for INTERSOS case management, distributing cases among the case workers taking into consideration the complexity of the case and the skill level of the case worker;
  • Manage an open caseload of up to 5 active complex cases, which case workers are struggling to manage;
  • Ensure that case workers conduct intake interviews with individuals identified by the team during outreach work or referred by other agencies, and open a case if vulnerability criteria are met;
  • Ensure that case workers carry out comprehensive assessments for each client after receiving their consent for same. Assist case workers in considering emotional, behavioural and social factors that affect their psychosocial well-being as well as protection and risk factors;
  • Oversee the development of tailored case plans, based on identified needs;
  • Verify the referral of clients to the appropriate and desired services;
  • Confirm that case workers close cases when the objectives in the case plan have been met and no further needs have been identified.

REPORTING, ADMINISTRATIVE & TECHNICAL
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the planning, implementation and reporting on all protection activities via weekly workplans, schedules and people management;
  • Support positive team dynamics and a healthy work environment where case workers feel comfortable and supported in sharing experiences, challenges and feelings;
  • Ensure an equal division of the overall workload, timely follow-up on targets and flag issues of case worker overload to the Protection Officer. Regularly review case worker caseload to ensure compliance with INTERSOS policies and provide quality service to beneficiaries. Ensure that case transfers, when necessary are implemented with a proper handover;
  • Supervise the accuracy of case documentation, ensuring that any progress on the individual action plan and any significant change is duly recorded in a timely fashion via regular case file review and using the case management platform. Provide feedback on same to case workers;
  • Monitor time frames for response, decision-making and follow-up via the internal case management
  • platform;
  • Participate in individual supervision sessions on a weekly basis with the Protection Officer, bringing
  • immediate attention to any case of special/emergency needs, discussing ongoing issues and strategising on team development;
  • Provide individual supervision sessions on a weekly basis to each case worker, supporting and coaching them in their duties using various methods (e.g. observation, shadowing, case file checks, case discussions). Support the case worker’s ability to find solutions and respond appropriately to daily challenges;
  • Identify gaps and training needs for the case workers and request support from the Protection Officer to provide the same;
  • Schedule and facilitate internal case conferences, team meetings, trainings and workshops as scheduled by the supervisory and management team;
  • Compile all reporting on case management and general protection activities as per INTERSOS and donor reporting regulations and transmit these on a weekly basis to the Protection Officer for further handling. Engage in regular feedback and dialogue with the Protection Officer on the quantitative and qualitative reporting;

DATA PROTECTION, CONFIDENTIALITY & ADHERENCE
TO PROTECTION PRINCIPLES

  • Oversee the proper and safe filing and archiving of case management files to maintain data confidentiality as per INTERSOS and international standards;
  • Ensure adherence of team members to protection principles, codes of conduct and internal SOPs. Conduct regular case audits to ensure that work is in compliance with established SOPs and minimum standards;
  • Carry out all tasks respecting key protection principles, including but not limited to;

    o Do no harm;
    o Non-discrimination;
    o Confidentiality,
    o Accountability, and;
    o Need-to-know principles

OTHER GENERAL PROTECTION ACTIVITIES

  • Contribute to regular service mapping, updates to the service directory and support the development of referral systems with different service providers and the local NGO/CSO partner;
  • Flag protection and security issues and contribute to the identification of appropriate responses;
  • Identify and assist in the analysis of protection trends in the overall caseload;
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of awareness raising activities, focus group discussions, and training workshops as instructed by the supervisory/managerial team;
  • Collaborate and coordinate with INTERSOS teams from other departments (WASH, Health & Nutrition, Livelihoods, etc…) in order to ensure holistic solutions

Position Requirements

  • University degree in a related field (e.g. Social Work, Psychology, Law, etc…);
  • Minimum 2-years of work experience with an INGO, NGOs and/or local authorities in Nigeria;
  • Minimum 1-year of supervisory experience with an INGO,
  • NGOs and/or local authorities in Nigeria
  • Essential computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, internet, etc…);
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Excellent reporting skills;
  • Leadership, people management and coaching skills;
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability and motivation to work well with local authorities,local leaders and local community;
  • Willing to work extra hours and available at the weekendfor emergency cases
  • Capacity to work under pressure and willingness to work and live in a complex context
  • Fluency in English, Kanuri and Hausa;
  • Highly motivated, flexible, reliable and trustworthy
