Tasks and responsibilities:
The Protection Policy Specialist makes sure that organizational protection policies are well known and implemented at field level, where the action is implemented. S/he provides support to the roll out of the Prevention from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and Child Protection Policy (CPP), which are extremely relevant within a cash based intervention, where the risks linked to the disbursement of cash are usually higher that in protection stand-alone programmes. S/he identifies focal points that will be trained on specific procedures and topics related to the exploitation of beneficiaries – especially women and children – during and after the implementation of the current ECHO programme. As a result of this, field staff will be able to identify, report and investigate on possible cases of abuses.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Protection Advisor, the Protection Policy Specialist will be responsible of the following:
• Revise the PSEA and CPP currently available within the organization and possibly suggest and advise changes and improvements.
• Make sure the policies are known by key staff in the field, where the action is implemented through monitoring visits and the conduction of an in depth training to key staff.
• Adapt and develop specific trainings to roll out the policies in Jordan, where the action is implemented.
• Develop case studies and extra material that can be used within the mission to illustrate cases of abuses during the implementation of cash based programmes.
• Support the design of complaint mechanisms focused on abuses against women and minors.
• Strategize on the best way of implementing the policies at field level and provide key colleagues with concrete advices on how to translate that into practise.
• Support key colleagues in the field in the identification of focal points for both policies.
• Conduct a training to the identified focal points on the policies, i.e. how to implement them and how to develop reporting mechanisms.
Other responsibilities:
• Uphold the INTERSOS Code of Conduct and policies;
• Ensure the respect of the core humanitarian principles: neutrality, impartiality, independence and humanity and the respect of the “do no harm” principle of humanitarian action.
• Strictly follow the internal procedures, policies and guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
Required profile/experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in social studies, humanitarian actions or any related field;
Ideally at least 5 years of professional experience in protection in the NGO and humanitarian sector;
Extensive field experience and an in–depth knowledge of refugees assistance issues;
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage efficiently multiple priorities, deadlines and tasks with attention to details;
Ability to communicate effectively with variety of people and express oneself in a clear and concise way;
Strong communication and reporting skills ;
Good command of MS Office packet, including good typing skills;
