General Description

INTERSOS is a humanitarian organization on the front-line of emergencies, bringing assistance to people in need with particular attention to the protection of the most vulnerable people.

Since 1992 our humanitarian workers have been helping people affected by humanitarian crises: we provide first aid, food, shelter, medical assistance and basic goods. We ensure that basic needs, as education, access to clean water and health assistance, are met. Following the conflict in the Afghanistan and the deterioration of the humanitarian situation which negatively affects also neighboring countries, in December 2021 INTERSOS got its approval to start supporting Afghan Refugees in Iran to contribute towards ensuring emergency relief and social protection assistance for the Afghan refugees fleeing their home in search of safety.

Main Purpose

The purpose of the Log Manager is to be responsible that the Log system is according to INTERSOS standard and to support programme/project implementation.

Duty station: Tehran (Country Office) with estimated 30% travel to the field

Contract duration: 6 months with possibility of extension

Reporting to:

Hierarchical: Head of mission

Functional: Logistics Coordinator (Regional Logistics Coordinator if Logistics Coordinator is not present)

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Assist the Project Manager and Logistics Coordinator in the definition and follow-up of logistics activities in the project or capital, in order to identify and give a response to the needs of the targeted population

• Ensure and monitor the implementation of logistics/technical activities in the project/capital including the following:

  • logistics: (construction, transport of goods and staff, communications, water and sanitation, vehicles and engines, equipment/installation and infrastructures, communications, installation and maintenance of functional office spaces and lodging facilities for international staffs in adequate living conditions)

  • WHS: implementation of water, health and sanitation activities

  • supply: implementation and maintenance of an appropriate supply chain for the project in collaboration with Supply team

• Implement all administrative related activities linked to logistics (orders, insurances, vehicle contracts, etc.)

• Participate in the planning and implementation, together with the Logistics Coordinator, the Project Manager and the HR Coordinator, the HR associated processes (recruitment, training, briefing/debriefing, evaluation, detection of potential, development and communication) of the logistics staff in the project/capital in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required to correctly perform all logistics activities

• Development of formalized in country logistics policy documentation in line with Global INTERSO procedures

• Directly assisting and contributing to program and project design, including budget development

• Ensure technical reference for all logistics/technical issues in the project and provide coaching to logistics staffs under his/her responsibility. Ensure all staffs in the project are properly briefed about use of communication tools (handsets, HF/VHF, etc.)

• Define and monitor technical aspects of the project risk reduction policy, transport, communication, protection, identification and preparation of the technical aspects of the security policy and guidelines, evacuation plan and contingency plan, monitoring day-to day the application of security rules and reporting to the Project Manager any problem that may arise. For this purpose, the Logistics Manager has to create an appropriate environment to facilitate security exchange of information

• Participate in monthly reports according to guidelines

Requirements

• Essential secondary education and technical diploma or technical university degree, preferably as an engineer

• Essential working experience of at least two years in logistics related activities

• Desirable previous experience with logistics departments in NGOs, and working experience in developing countries

• Fluency in Farsi and English both verbal and written

• Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)

• Planning and organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines

• Initiative and service orientation

• Leadership, people management and development

• Teamwork and communication skills

• Negotiation and networking skills

• High integrity and transparency

• Commitment to INTERSOS principles
