General Description

INTERSOS is a humanitarian organization on the front-line of emergencies, bringing assistance to people in need with particular attention to the protection of the most vulnerable people.

Since 1992 our humanitarian workers have been helping people affected by humanitarian crises: we provide first aid, food, shelter, medical assistance and basic goods. We ensure that basic needs, as education, access to clean water and health assistance, are met. Following the conflict in the Afghanistan and the deterioration of the humanitarian situation which negatively affects also neighbouring countries, in December 2021 INTERSOS got its approval to start supporting Afghan Refugees in Iran to contribute towards ensuring emergency relief and social protection assistance for the Afghan refugees fleeing their home in search of safety.

Main Purpose

Establish and nurture strong relationship between the Organization and local actors as national authorities, partners, communities, etc. ensuring proper communication as well as cooperation. Ensure INTERSOS humanitarian mission and principles are understood by all stakeholders in the Country

Duty station: Tehran (Country Office) with estimated 30% travel to the field

Contract duration: 6 months with possibility of extension

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Support Head of Mission and Senior Management Team to establish, develop and maintain proper communication as well as cooperation, positive and transparent external relations with relevant authorities and key stakeholders. Keep good knowledge of counterparts in different administrations and departments and keep up to date records of field contacts (other NGOs, UN agencies, local authorities, etc.) verifying that they are easily accessible, in order to facilitate contacts and meetings

• Collect, analyse and share information including changes of the context in order to support Head of Mission and mission staffs to develop an in-depth understanding of the areas of intervention. Provide translations and interpretations according to INTERSOS protocols, standards and procedures in order to facilitate the mission coordination tasks

• Support with monitoring national and regional media to highlight developments relevant to the work of INTERSOS in I.R. of Iran.

• At the request of Head of Mission represent INTERSOS in meetings with communities and government and non-government stakeholders to negotiate access to the field, and prepare full report

• Pursue and develop relationships with local partners to identify new humanitarian access opportunities and to maintain existing ones

• Ensure the follow up of relevant administrative dossiers such as registration in the country, work permits, immigration policies, national protocols, etc.

• Translate documents from English to Persian and vice-versa and act as an interpreter when needed.

• Write letters and correspondences with officials and partners and prepare reports, internal memos and formal requests

• Recording physical and electronic archives of all communications with national level government authorities, and keeping record on all outgoing and incoming communications.

• Assist with developing administrative tools and ensure applying existing procedures to ensure timely and effective implementation of Government Liaison’s activities.

Requirements

• University degree in Business Administration, Political Science, International Relations, or related fields

• Minimum 3 years relevant work experience in the humanitarian sector especially in complex environment. INGO experience is an asset

• Proficiency in English both oral and written

• Farsi is mandatory

• Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)

• Teamwork and cooperation

• Good organization and communication skills

• Flexibility

• Respect of INTESOS values

• Ability to work under pressure

• Negotiation and networking skills
