1.Terms of reference

Job title: Psychologist

Duty Station: Roma (Centro Torre Spaccata, with possible travels in national project locations with INTERSOS Mobile Medical Team)

Starting date: 01/08/2017

Duration of contract: 6 months

Reporting to: Migration Unit Director

Supervision of: Mediators and consultants

Collaborate with: INTERSOS Resident Doctor and INTERSOS Mobile Unit Doctor

2.General context of the project

Intersos is starting a new project based in the Unaccompanied Asylum- Seeking Children (UASC) Centre in Torre Spaccata (Rome) ; the project foresees a Psychological Support component that will be rolled out in the Primary Health Care Point. The Psychological Support will have 3 sides:

· Direct psychological support for Primary Health Care Point Torre Spaccata’s guest in coordination with INTERSOS medical unit and Local Health Authorities (ASL Roma above all)

· Support for Unaccompanied Asylum- Seeking Children of the Torre Spaccata Centre (UASC) in coordination with Rome UASC Mobile Team

· Single initiatives in coordination with of the INTERSOS Medical Mobile Unit in particular missions (i.e. emergency situations in Ventimiglia o in Sicily)

3.General purpose of the position

The purpose of the position is to provide psychological and psychosocial support to vulnerable individuals and groups in the Torre Spaccata’s Center through one on one and group counselling sessions. S/he will also work to structure and coordinate activities and interventions - training, education and awareness raising components - related to the previously mentioned sessions.

4.Tasks and responsibilities

• Provide Psychological Support to Unaccompanied Asylum- Seeking Children and Primary Health Care Point’s guests

• Provide one on one counselling for a reasonable and manageable amount of cases in coordination with the Medical Coordinator

• Identify and manage patients that require further or additional psychiatric support

• Structure waiting lists according to priority (if needed)

• Evaluate the possibility of running focus/support group activities and structure its implementation

• Maintain adequate documentation related to the case management in respect with all privacy and data protection regulations

• Use data management systems pre-established by the project

• Structure specific training for local workers on migration issues, giving induction on Mental Health issues and supporting in structuring a psycho-social support program

• Create educational material for patients

• Be the ultimate responsible for the selection and management of interns

• Receive specific migration training

• Be in charge of external relations on behalf of the project

• Liaise with the local institutions active in mental health treatment and psychological and psychiatric matters

• Increase awareness of the state of Mental Health of Migrants in the Roma area and broader extended territory where required by the project

• Coordinate with Psychological Component of Mesoghios Project in Calabria

• When possible participate in local, national and international events representing the psychological component of the INTERSOS project

The Psychologist will be required to provide periodic updates to the Head of Migration Unit through:

• Weekly briefs (formats to be defined together with the Head of Unit)

• Monthly summaries (formats to be defined together with the Head of Unit)

• Mid-term and end reports (formats to be defined together with the Head of Unit)

5.Required profile/experience

• University degree in Clinical psychology, Counselling Psychology, or Clinical Social Work

• Registration or chartered membership with an accredited psychology association

• Previous experience working with refugees or migrants will be an asset

• Excellent counselling skills

• Knowledge of the local context, preferably from a migration perspective

• Awareness of refugees and migrants issues

• Knowledge and understanding of INGOs mechanism

• Italian Language is required, knowledge of English and/or French and/or Arabic are a plus

• Case management skills, solution-oriented approach

• Proactivity and ability to work autonomously

• Immediate availability

• Driving Licence (B)
