JOB SITE: Somalia, with travel in Middle Shabelle and Bay regions

DURATION: 9 months – 6 day work-week (through 31 December 2016)

PROBATION PERIOD: 3 months

REPORTS TO: Protection Officer, Jowhar

STATUS: Full-time staff

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE:

INTERSOS has been supporting the Jowhar Regional Hospital (JRH) in 1992. INTERSOS is urgently looking for a CMR Nurse to support activities at Jowhar Hospital and associated health centres. The CMR nurse will provide all the necessary care to patients associated with the respective specified nurse’s duties in hospital and following universal precautions and adhering to guiding principles for working with GBV survivors. The nurse will work closely with doctors and MCH/hospital staff to train and mentor on CMR guidelines and procedures for referral and care with focal points in each health facility. The CMR nurse will be responsible for the correct taking of vital signs, recording on the clinical cards and WHO forms, and providing medicines to the patients following doctor’s instructions in timely manner. The nurse will work closely with INTERSOS protection department.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

1.Direct patient care for GBV survivors and other patients

• Provide care to patients in the Hospital, MCHs and mobile clinics according to the doctor’s instructions, hospital guidelines and available protocols and using the available tools/ instruments and medical drugs;

• Act as the main nurse focal point for clinical management of rape (CMR) and other GBV cases for INTERSOS Middle Shabelle supporting direct clinical care and referral, ensuring that WHO CMR and hospital STI protocols are followed;

• Act upon patient’s medical and surgical conditions and reports immediately to respective doctor for any decision to be taken accordingly. Provide immediate referral for critical injuries or immediate surgical care;

• Conduct evaluation and monitoring of all the patient’s needs/ following nursing procedures pertaining to his/ her area of competence;

· Provide key teaching messages for CMR patients, provide information on other care services and ensure informed consent for referral for GBV case management and follow-up for other health needs;

• Gather and check for consistency of clinical cards data with close collaboration to doctors and facilitate that these are properly transmitted to the Data Manager to be included in the database.

• For GBV cases ensure that the WHO forms are used, filled and securely stored; check the consistency of the forms and ensuring monthly reporting of patients is submitted to the protection department;

• Provide CMR outreach to respond to emergencies including displacement of populations, and conduct outreach visits with mobile teams;

• Ensure effective collaboration with the heads of INTERSOS operated Hospital and MCHs and with INTERSOS protection department and partners in Middle Shabelle.

2.Capacity building for INTERSOS health and nutrition staff and partners on CMR, guiding principles for working with survivors and detection of child abuse

· In close collaboration with and under the direction of the CRM Trainer, conduct CMR training and mentoring for INTERSOS staff and partners based on the WHO guidelines and Clinical Care for Sexual Assault Survivor’s curriculum. This may include travelling to other locations outside Middle Shabelle;

· Conduct regular visits and on-job mentoring for medical staff trained on CMR at INTERSOS Hospital and MCHs, and other health facilities that are involved in the GBV and CP SOP, including ensuring WHO CMR protocols for treatment and care are adhered to and reporting and working to address any issues with treatment and care;

· Conduct training for auxiliary, support staff in the hospital and MCH and community health workers to apply the guiding principles for working with GBV survivors and support safe referrals;

· Establish the use of WHO medical history forms and data protection protocols, including use of lockable filing cabinets;

· Establish a system for reporting on post-rape treatment kits within the pharmacy system and for flagging stocks low and being the focal point for re-ordering (until such time as all required drugs are integrated onto the WHO essential drugs supply list);

· Establish privacy for consultations and treatment, and establish a system to prioritize care for CMR patients ensuring confidentiality and avoiding stigma.

Skills and competences

· Bachelor or diploma in Nursing from a well recognized institution;

· Minimum of two years work experience in related fields (gynaecology and paediatric) preferred;

· Previous Hospital experience, motivation letter from previous job experience (International NGOs);

· Previous experience providing CMR or working directly with survivors or child protection cases;

· Previous experience in conducting participatory training and mentoring is an asset;

· Excellent communications skills, both oral and written;

· Computer skills (Word and Excel);

· Excellent self-motivation and decision making skills;

· Extremely flexible, and able to cope with stressful situations and frustrations.

· Somali national, able to work in Middle Shabelle Region;

· Good level of spoken and written English.
